When I was little my mother showed me an old picture of my family from when she was a little girl. I remember immediately telling her that one day when I was ready, I was going to paint that photo. As I grew older I began to lose loved ones from the photo and one day I realized that if I waited too long to paint it, I wouldn’t be able to show anyone in the photo what I had created. Needless to say after that realization, I was “ready.” It’s painted not only to honor my elders but as a reminder to honor your loved ones today not tomorrow.
