Deborah Drive started as a silly joke that stemmed from finding a discarded street sign. I don’t remember the exact moment but along the way I had the idea to make a street light inspired by my Auntie “Dee” Deborah. She was such a renaissance woman, I learned so much of what I know from her both through her teachings directly as well as from my Mom, her little sister. She introduced me to Angela Davis and Kathleen Cleaver, two pioneers from the black panther party who are the subjects of this piece. Why I painted them green? I kinda just wanted to frfr​
